About Me
I received my PhD in philosophy from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2023.
My primary area of research was in the philosophy of mind and philosophy of cognitive science. My dissertation was on the relationship between how concepts (understood as mental representations) are conceived of in philosophy and psychology. I argued that there is no way to reconcile these competing conceptions. Rather, what philosophers have taken to be “concepts” should be understand as the constituents of what psychologists call “concepts.” I also argued that an approach to conceptual representations in either field must be both highly pluralistic and deeply ecological in its approach.
These days my primary focus is on improving my teaching and on writing for non-academic audiences. I am currently in the process of writing an OER (open educational resource) textbook for my survey of philosophy classes, which I hope to have finished in by the end of 2026. I am also working to expand my understanding of philosophical traditions outside of western philosophy.
I am currently working as an instructor at Allan Hancock College and at the California Men’s Colony.
